I was playing with the elf armor last night and came to the conclusion that
the jump from chainmail to mithril silver was too abrupt. The silver
highlites (it can be seen on my Lord Harcourt) are a bit too abrupt (also
obvious on my latest skaven flag dude). So I have started mixing chainmail
with silver as an intermediate step. So for dark, evil or orc type armor, I
do this (always black prime of course)

Boltgun
Wash with brown and or black ink (fairly thin)
boltgun again, leaving creases between plates darkened by ink
Then chainmail, then chain/mithril mix
I also add a wash of green ink for really grungy armor like the skaven I did
recently. Very thin of course. Looks cool!

For fancy pants armor like elves, knights etc I do the same steps, except
the ink wash is a blue/black 50/50 ink wash (I keep this pre-mixed in its
own bottle).
and I go all the way to a final highlite of mithril.

Im going to buy some bottles of chainmail and mithril, and create a seperate
bottle of this as a 50/50 mix to smooth out the highlite transitions.
