Kemmlers Workbench This little beauty won Michael a Slayer Sword at the 1999 Games Day in Germany. Isn't it a stunning piece of work? You can stare at this piece of art for hours, and still find something new. Michael's attention to detail and his ability to manifest his imagination into something tangible is just amazing.
Some words about this work from the artist himself, Michael Jacobsen; Kemmler´s Workbench
Golden Demon Slayer Sword Golden Demon Germany 1999
The idea was to build a ´lifesize´ diorama by using GW miniatures and a crystal ball seemed to me the best way.
These are the main parts I used: a glass ball (off course) several re-recasts of an ape-skull (thanks to Michael Immig for the master) a piece of velvet a hundred year old piece of oak-wood for the base a glass eye (for the candle ...)
Most of the miniatures had been painted long before (they have been in my drawer with completed miniatures), so it took me only a month to complete the diorama.
The glass ball had to be open on the lower end (where is the lower end at a ball ???), so I took it to my local glass shop, where the ball received the opening (do not ask me how they did it). But something terrible happened: during the opening process the glass ball cracked a little bit, but remained intact. Because this was the only ball I had, I had to think about how to hide the crack lines. I managed to hide these lines by the tree inside the ball and by some metal leaves on the outside of the ball.
Some of you might have seen the winning entry of the Open Competition at the Golden Demon UK 1999, the Wizard´s staff with a crystal ball. Well, it is up to you to guess, who has copied. Just a hint Golden Demon Germany 1999 has been in May 1999, Golden Demon UK has been in September 1999
